Service runs on a different clock than construction. It needs its own people, its own dispatch and its own accountability, so we built it that way from day one.

Lark Service is led by Terry Cooney, who spent more than twenty years running service for western Kentucky plants and businesses. Behind him sits Lark Electric: founded 1963, more than sixty electricians, industrial controls and automation in house, and the buying power to get parts the same day. New division, deep bench.

Terry joined May Electric in 2000 as a service electrician, became an owner in 2010 and grew its service department into roughly a third of the business. Lark Service brings that dedicated model back: its own electricians, its own scheduling and its own customer relationships, with around-the-clock emergency response.

With the backing of American Gridwork Partners, the division is investing in recruiting, training and expansion, starting in Owensboro with Bowling Green, Kentucky and Nashville, Tennessee to follow.

Director of Lark Service

Terry Cooney

Terry Cooney spent his career on service and industrial work in western Kentucky. He was co-owner and vice president of May Electric, the Owensboro industrial and controls contractor founded in 1959 and one of the oldest electrical companies in the city.

Over those years he became the person plant managers and maintenance superintendents called first. Not because of a contract, but because he answered, and because the electrician who showed up already knew the building.

When May Electric joined Lark in 2024, Terry stayed. He has led service since, and in 2026 was elevated to an executive role as part of Lark's partnership with American Gridwork Partners.

He now owns the division's operations, customer relationships, recruiting and expansion. Terry lives in Owensboro.

Lark Electric Launches Lark Service, Appoints Terry Cooney to Lead Dedicated Commercial and Industrial Service Division

After more than two decades leading service operations at May Electric, Cooney will lead Lark Service as the company expands its capabilities with the backing of American Gridwork Partners.

Lark Electric today announced the launch of Lark Service, a dedicated commercial and industrial electrical service division led by Terry Cooney, a longtime Owensboro electrical industry leader who spent more than two decades building and managing the service department at May Electric.

The launch marks an important step in Lark's continued expansion and its commitment to providing customers with dedicated electricians, specialized service teams and long-term electrical maintenance support.

Lark Service will initially operate in Owensboro, Kentucky, with plans to expand into Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Nashville, Tennessee, supported by the broader resources and operating capabilities of American Gridwork Partners.

Returning to a Dedicated Service Model

In 2024, Lark Electric acquired May Electric, bringing together two of Owensboro's longest-standing electrical contractors under a single organization.

The initial focus of the integration was combining the companies' people, capabilities and operations to create a stronger electrical contractor serving commercial and industrial customers throughout the region.

As the combined business grew, Lark recognized that its service customers required a more dedicated approach, particularly when it came to matching the right electricians with the right jobs.

"When we brought the companies together, our priority was building one stronger organization, but in doing so, we didn't focus enough on maintaining the dedicated service model that May Electric's customers had come to expect. Service requires a different operating model than construction, and we recognized that we needed to give it its own leadership, its own team and the attention it deserves."Ross Hyland, CEO of Lark Electric

Hyland said the decision to establish Lark Service reflects the company's commitment to improving how it serves existing customers while creating a foundation for continued growth.

"With the backing of American Gridwork Partners, we now have the resources and organizational support to build this division the right way. We have the opportunity to refocus on what made our service business successful for so many years while giving Terry and his team the ability to take it much further."

American Gridwork Partners Provides the Resources for Expansion

In August 2026, Lark Electric joined forces with American Gridwork Partners, an infrastructure platform focused on investing in and growing established electrical and critical infrastructure businesses.

The partnership provides Lark with additional capital, operational resources and access to a broader network of electrical and infrastructure companies, allowing it to invest in specialized divisions while continuing to operate from Owensboro under its existing leadership.

For Lark Service, the partnership provides the resources to establish a dedicated service organization, expand recruiting and training, and support its growth into additional markets.

"One of the reasons we partnered with Lark was the strength of its people and the customer relationships that had been built over decades. The service business was already there, and Terry had spent more than twenty years building it. What was needed was the organizational structure and resources to give that business the attention it deserves."Grant Stark, Co-Founder and CEO of American Gridwork Partners

The launch also reflects Lark's broader strategy of organizing its operations into dedicated divisions for commercial construction, industrial electrical work, service, and fiber and data, with a technology and IT services division planned for 2027.

Terry Cooney to Lead Lark Service

Cooney joined May Electric in 2000 as a service electrician, became an owner of the company in 2010 and helped grow its service department into approximately one-third of May Electric's overall business.

Over more than two decades, Cooney developed long-standing relationships with industrial and commercial customers throughout western Kentucky, building a service operation recognized for its responsiveness, technical expertise and familiarity with the facilities it maintained.

Following May Electric's integration into Lark, Cooney continued with the combined organization. The establishment of Lark Service will allow him to return his full attention to developing the dedicated service business he spent much of his career building.

"At May Electric, if a plant called, somebody went. It didn't matter what time it was or how small the job looked. That's how you end up with customers for thirty years instead of thirty days. Our goal with Lark Service is to build that same kind of relationship with every customer we serve."Terry Cooney, Director of Lark Service

What Lark Service Will Do

Lark Service will operate as a dedicated commercial and industrial electrical service division with its own electricians, scheduling and customer relationships, along with around-the-clock emergency response capabilities.

The division will serve manufacturing plants, food and agricultural processors, distribution facilities, healthcare facilities, municipal buildings, schools and commercial properties.

Services will include emergency troubleshooting and repair, preventive and planned maintenance, motor and controls troubleshooting, switchgear and electrical distribution service, generator and backup power testing, infrared scanning, lighting and controls upgrades, EV charging support and quick-turn capital projects.

Why Lark Is Prioritizing Service Now

Industrial and commercial facilities are adding automation, robotics, networked controls, onsite generation, energy storage and increasingly sophisticated electrical systems. As these facilities become more complex, customers require specialized electricians who understand their operations and can provide ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting and emergency support.

"Service is a relationship business, and it requires a different mindset than construction," said Hyland. "You need electricians who know the facility, understand the customer and can be there when something goes down. We now have the people, leadership and resources to build that team intentionally, and Terry is the right person to lead it."

Expansion Beyond Owensboro

The expansion of Lark Service will begin in Owensboro, with plans to enter Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Nashville, Tennessee. In these markets, electrical businesses within the American Gridwork Partners platform will incorporate Lark Service into their local offerings.

Lark Service is hiring licensed service electricians and apprentices across all three markets.
